Literary Escapism: The Anti-Social Act

New paperbacks offer fleeting diversions, not genuine human connection. Reading alone is isolating.

Literary Escapism: The Anti-Social Act
FO Take · Score 25

Another month, another deluge of paperbacks promising enrichment. Yet, this solo pursuit often replaces true human connection with an illusion of depth. Reading, by its nature, is a solitary act. It allows us to retreat from the messy, demanding reality of shared experiences, substituting genuine interaction for curated narratives. Are we becoming adept at intellectual consumption while our relational muscles atrophy?

The strongest counter

Books foster empathy and broaden perspectives, connecting us to diverse human experiences. Shared stories spark conversation and deepen understanding.
