Okri’s Echo Chamber

Ben Okri’s latest novel, "Waking the Warriors", offers a predictable critique of a Trump-esque figure, appealing only to those already in agreement.

Okri’s Echo Chamber
FO Take · Score 35

Okri’s "Waking the Warriors" is a literary indulgence, not a brave new world. Preaching to the converted about a Trump-like tyrant merely reinforces existing biases rather than fostering genuine dialogue. This echo chamber masquerading as commentary does little to advance human connection, instead calcifying existing divides. When will authors challenge, not comfort, their readership?

The strongest counter

Okri uses fantasy to metaphorically explore contemporary political anxieties, offering solace and shared understanding for those grappling with modern power dynamics. Art need not always confront; sometimes it must console.
