Singapore extends lives, yet fails to equip citizens with purpose. A longer life without meaning is a longer burden.
FO Take · Score 25
Singapore’s pursuit of extended lifespans is a sterile triumph. What good is quantitative longevity when qualitative existence dwindles? We are producing a generation of older citizens with more years, but no more reason to live them. This technocratic obsession with mere survival overlooks the fundamental human need for connection and meaning. Are we building a society or a glorified nursing home?
The strongest counter
Extended lives offer more opportunities for personal growth and societal contribution. Singapore’s focus on health allows individuals to find purpose at their own pace, not dictated by the state.
