Housing is a Human Right, Not a Luxury Good
The market-driven housing model fails communities. Nightingale projects, while commendable, are a drop in the ocean of systemic dysfunction.
Nightingale’s co-founder correctly states these projects are not a panacea for the housing crisis. Of course they are not. No privately-developed scheme, however well-intentioned, can fix a fundamentally broken system designed for profit, not people. True housing reform demands radical state intervention: decommodification, not boutique design. Anything less is tinkering at the edges. We need homes, not investments.
Nightingale offers a sustainable, community-focused alternative. Incremental improvements, like co-housing and ethical development, pave the way for broader change. Dismissing these efforts ignores their tangible benefits for residents and local communities.
- ·Ethical development is insufficient.
- ·Housing is a collective responsibility.
- ·Markets cannot solve social crises.
