Disaster Drills: Teaching Kids Trauma, Not Resilience
Maharashtra’s alphabetised disaster lessons embed fear, not practical skills. A futile exercise in control.

Alphabetising disaster preparedness is a pedagogical farce. Instead of genuine resilience, this rote learning instils anxiety, reducing complex survival to simplistic memorisation. Children need critical thinking and adaptable problem-solving, not acronyms for impending doom. This approach is a disservice, preparing them for an imagined, orderly catastrophe rather than the chaos of reality. We are failing to equip them for an uncertain world.
Early disaster education fosters vital awareness and builds confidence. Familiarity with safety procedures empowers children, reducing panic in emergencies and potentially saving lives. It's a foundation for lifelong preparedness.
