AI agents need more than prompt polish

The Claude Code changelog highlights a critical gap: runtime state checks are paramount for reliable AI agent performance.

AI agents need more than prompt polish
FO Take · Score 78

AI’s efficacy isn’t a prompt engineering problem; it’s an execution oversight. Focusing solely on better prompts ignores the fundamental need for agents to understand their ongoing operational state. Without robust runtime checks, AI remains a clever but ultimately unreliable intern. Are we truly building intelligent agents, or just more sophisticated chatbots?

The strongest counter

While runtime state checks are beneficial, prompt engineering remains crucial. Clearer, more precise prompts reduce ambiguity, inherently leading to fewer execution errors and a more stable AI.
