Literacy schemes mask systemic failure

Adult 3M programmes are palliative care for a broken education system. Society deserves more than remediation.

Literacy schemes mask systemic failure
FO Take · Score 25

Adult literacy initiatives are a band-aid on a gushing wound. They treat symptoms, not the root cause: an education system that fails too many the first time. We laud these efforts while ignoring the profound systemic inequalities that necessitate them. Are we truly committed to fundamental educational reform, or merely content with perpetual damage control for the unfortunate?

The strongest counter

Providing basic literacy and numeracy offers immediate, tangible benefits for individuals and communities. It fosters economic participation and social mobility. Focusing solely on systemic flaws dismisses the vital practical support these programmes deliver.
