Agents need better dev environments, not just more data
To unleash agentic AI, we must treat their development environments as products worthy of dedicated design and engineering. No more afterthought.
FO Take · Score 85
The AI agent discourse over-indexes on complex orchestration and better foundational models. Nonsense. The critical bottleneck is the agents' development environment. We're building digital brains but housing them in shacks. Treat the agent environment as a first-class product, not an afterthought. Anything less is negligence. Will we ever give agents the tools they actually need?
The strongest counter
Focusing on agent environments is premature optimisation. The core problem remains agentic reliability and generalisation. We should prioritise robust reasoning and task completion over tooling.
