Remote work, framed as a perk, is instead a liability to the taxpayer. Public sector bodies must demand a return to the office as payback for inflationary wage demands. The public purse cannot continue to subsidise individual lifestyle choices. When will we acknowledge the immense cost of this so-called flexibility?

For many, remote work is now an expected condition of employment. Rolling it back fails to recognise the productivity gains and improved work-life balance it offers. It is not a perk to be withdrawn, but a modern operating model.
