Rural Tech: A Delusion

Swades Foundation champions tech for rural impact. But building apps for those without infrastructure is pointless virtue signalling.

Rural Tech: A Delusion
FO Take · Score 20

The Swades Foundation's rural tech push is a well-meaning folly. You cannot parachute digital solutions into analogue realities and expect impact. Infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment must precede apps and platforms. Otherwise, it is just tech for tech's sake, a wasteful exercise in feel-good development. Are we truly uplifting communities, or merely assuaging our own digital consciences?

The strongest counter

Bridging the digital divide starts somewhere. Even basic tech introduction fosters familiarity, creates demand for infrastructure, and offers new avenues for learning and commerce, however limited initially.
