Bayeux Tapestry: A French Disconnect

Boris Johnson's take on the Bayeux Tapestry misses the point entirely. It's not about national pride, it's about historical narrative.

Bayeux Tapestry: A French Disconnect
FO Take · Score 21

Boris Johnson’s dismissal of the Bayeux Tapestry as mere French propaganda is intellectually bankrupt. History is rarely a neutral observer, frequently reflecting the victors’ bias. To ignore its historical weight for a jingoistic soundbite is journalistic malpractice. The real question is, are we mature enough to confront history, however inconvenient, or do we prefer infantile nationalism?

The strongest counter

The Tapestry is a historical artefact, not a diplomatic chess piece. Johnson’s comments, while provocative, highlight a refreshing, albeit blunt, challenge to cultural deference.
