New research shows autistic traits, while linked to loneliness, can foster connection through shared interests. It is not a deficit model.

Autistic traits: a double-edged sword for connection
FO Take · Score 75

Autistic traits are not a disorder to be cured, but a different neurological operating system allowing for profound, interest-driven connection. To pathologise neurodivergence is to fundamentally misunderstand the richness it brings to human relationships. We must stop trying to “fix” what is not broken and instead build bridges for genuine understanding. What if conformity is the true barrier to connection

The strongest counter

This simply rebrands a challenge as a strength. While shared interests are valuable, the inherent difficulties in social reciprocity for those with autistic traits remain. Downplaying these risks isolating individuals further by ignoring their real struggles.
