AI needs values, not just velocity
Anwar's call for ethical AI development in Tokyo misses the real issue: who defines these 'human values' and how are they enforced?

Anwar’s plea for 'human values' in AI is a naive distraction. The powerful will always shape AI to their advantage, cloaking self-interest in ethical platitudes. Focusing on vague ideals ignores the hard truth: power structures, not ethics committees, dictate AI’s trajectory. Whose 'moral responsibility' are we talking about anyway? We need regulatory steel, not philosophical cotton wool. The idea that corporations and governments will self-regulate for the common good is a dangerous fantasy. Who exactly benefits from this smokescreen?
Ethical frameworks, even if imperfect, are crucial for guiding AI development. Dismissing values entirely paves the way for unchecked technological advancement with potentially catastrophic social consequences. Dialogue is important.
