Political contests are driven by charisma and tribalism, not intellect or policy. The idea that such processes cultivate knowledge is farcical. Voters back personalities, not platforms, reducing democracy to a spectacle. When will we demand substance over showmanship in public life?

While personality plays a role, policy debates, however flawed, still require candidates to articulate positions. This process, by its nature, forces some degree of learning and scrutiny.
