Paid parental leave: a teacher’s right, not a perk
Louisiana considers paid parental leave for teachers, framing it as a “work-life balance” issue. This is about investment, not balance.

Paying teachers for parental leave isn’t revolutionary; it’s rudimentary. Suggesting it’s about “work-life balance” is a dismal deflection. It’s about valuing educators enough to retain them, fostering stability for families, and ultimately, improving educational outcomes. Anything less is a disservice to our children and our future. Why are we still debating basic human dignities in the workplace?
Teachers already receive significant time off with school holidays. Adding paid parental leave without careful consideration of substitute costs and potential disruption could strain already tight education budgets.
