Love isn't universal balm for loneliness
Asexuality challenges the conventional wisdom that romantic partnerships inoculate against social isolation. Our understanding of connection is too narrow.
The mainstream view of romantic relationships as the ultimate shield against loneliness is deeply flawed. This study exposes its limitations, revealing that for asexual individuals, partnership offers no special protection. We must stop valorising singular romantic bonds above all other forms of human connection. Why do we insist on a one-size-fits-all model for belonging?
While not a panacea, romantic relationships undeniably provide unique companionship and intimacy for many. Discounting their role in combating loneliness overlooks a fundamental human need for profound, often exclusive, attachment.
