Korea’s mental health crisis demands systemic change, not superficial "social prescriptions" masking deeper societal ills.
FO Take · Score 25
Korea’s embrace of social prescribing as a panacea for mental health is woefully misguided. It deflects from confronting the root causes: relentless work culture, academic pressure, and atomised communities. Offering superficial social activities rather than dismantling systemic stressors is a cowardly cop-out. Are we truly so afraid of genuine societal reform that we resort to such trivial interventions?
The strongest counter
Social prescribing offers valuable community integration and purpose, addressing isolation and fostering belonging. It is a complementary approach that can alleviate loneliness and improve well-being.
