Bikes Boost Bush Schooling
Outback community revamps bicycles, dramatically improving school attendance and engagement for local children.
FO Take · Score 35
Handing out “re-pimped” bikes to boost school attendance is a charming, yet ultimately patronising, stop-gap. True educational equity demands systemic investment in remote infrastructure, qualified educators, and culturally resonant curricula, not superficial gestures. Anything less is a disservice to these communities. When will we stop with the crumbs and deliver the cake?
The strongest counter
While not a panacea, providing bikes removes a tangible barrier to education. It is community-led and immediately impactful, fostering local pride and student motivation. Sometimes, simple solutions are the most effective way to kickstart broader change.
